Regularly Inspect/Clean your Battery and Cables
Battery corrosion builds upon the posts and cables of your battery
after extensive use. It is, therefore, a wise idea to inspect your battery and cable from time to time. A rule of thumb is to inspect it once a month to ensure there is no corrosion build up. In case you spot some corrosion, you can easily clean the battery cable and posts using a mixture of baking soda and water or invest in corrosion removal fluid.
To effectively clean your battery, do the following:
- Remove your battery cables from the posts
- Carefully clean the posts and cables with a wire brush and fluid
- Rinse the battery
cables and posts with water
- Reconnect your battery with the positive side first.
- Starter
While your battery works to supply your vehicle with the power to start, your starter
is what gets your engine to crank and run. Your battery supplies a small amount of power that activates the starter motor. Your vehicle’s starter works by rotating the flywheel, which in result, turns the crankshaft, triggering the movement of the engine
pistons. It is due to this intricate process that it is important to ensure that the starter works perfectly. It’s difficult to determine when your starter will fail, but visiting a reputable car maintenance center such as AAMCO Utah could help recognize the early warning signs.
